What Is: Presidential Politics SUCK.
It seems that since I began voting, the only people that get my vote are the ones that piss me off the least. I began voting in 1984. I could not bring myself to vote for Mondale.
The Office of President of the United States is no longer and elected office. It seems to be a commodity to be purchased. Sometimes it may purchased with money, most often it appears to be purchased with backroom secret deals with others in the political machine.
We are one of the Greatest Nations on Earth, EVER. Our Presidents, ALL of them, should be among the Greatest Leaders on Earth.
What Should Be: Presidential Politics should not SUCK.
The office of President of the United States is an office that once achieved, there is no payback to anyone. It is the highest office in the land. There is no ass to kiss to get the next promotion. You don't have to keep a lobbyist, or a committee happy. You don't have to use a focus group to make a decision.
It should be the time in a Political Career to LEAD. I really don't have an example to hold up of what I think a Great President would be. But I think it is a person who when they got there would look around them and try to do the "right" thing. They would be someone who inspires others to do good things. Something like a cross of what we want to believe George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Teddy Roosevelt and a few others were.
Perhaps that is the thing right there...None of these men appeared to be "part of the machine". They seemed to people with a clear opinion of their own on how things should be run and they convinced you to go along with them. They did not seem to chose a position based on popularity, they seemed to make their position popular.
